   Ok, maybe he's not THE worst, but I'm not a big fan of Dr. Kendrick Kang-Jo Jeong

   I have nothing against Ken personally. I understand how difficult it is for Asian Americans to make it in Hollywood.

   What disappoints me is the whiny, annoying, obnoxious, weird characters he always plays & it's because of these roles that he is one of the most successful & prominent Asian American actors of this decade.

   I know people gotta pay their bills & if Ken didn't play these roles, casting would always find someone else.

   The rationalization is always the same, it's a first step, foot in the door. First we play slave, pimp, mugger, ho & that paves the way for future generations to play the hero, president, cowboy.

   I love TED Talks. I discovered the site in 2007 & it has been blowing my mind ever since. While this may be a slight detour from my usual posts, I wanted to share some of the interesting Asians who are trying to make a big different in our world.

   TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks. TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, but it wasn't until 2001, when media entrepreneur Chris Anderson took control from founder Richard Saul Wurman that TED started to become the beacon of idea sharing it is today.

   The Geisha is one of the most well known & pervasive symbols not only of Japan, but of all the "Orient". Gisaeng (기생) in Korea, concubines in China; throughout Asia there are comparable equivalents. 

   I have curated 30 works of art, from 12 artists (3 non-Asian men, 3 Asian men & 6 Asian women) portraying or influenced by geisha, to explore the remixing & reframing of this ancient symbol.

   With his traditional Chinese/Japanese patterns, Jimmy Ho, now in his sixties, remains one of the coolest and most forward ­thinking tattooists in Hong Kong.

   Jimmy opened his first tattoo shop at the age of 14, followed by more than 40 years serving clients including film stars and local gangsters.

   A common stereotype & joke, the fact is eating animals, all kinds of animals & all their various organs is part of Asian culture. In white culture, many of these animals &/or parts are considered taboo, in this case, dog meat.

Viewer Discretion - Graphic depiction of market realities such as butchering meat, in this case dogs.

   Level & objective coverage of the Dog Eating Festival in Yulin, China. Even though the reporter clearly has a bias, she's a dog owner. She manages to show articulate arguments on both sides of this hyper-divisive issue, going as far as sampling the cuisine at a family celebration. 

   Southern China has always had a tradition of dining on dogs, despite becoming more prosperous in the 1990s, Yulin has maintained the unique tradition of holding a canine banquet every summer.

   Japanese point guard, Yuki Togashi (167cm) impressed fans & coaches by playing big for the Dallas Mavericks summer league team, but he didn't quite make the cut.

   Well, he didn't, then he did, then he didn't. 

   Togashi was signed to the Mavs on Oct 15 & then waived on Oct 21 :( He did not get to play in a preseason game. 

   I don't think we've seen the last of him, tho. The Mavs will most likely sign him to their D-league team, Texas Legends & call him up if their guards get injured or don't perform up to expectation.

   Just do it pt2 -  Accurate characterizations of Koreans, so glad this is in Korean. Here is the difference between racism & comedy, when ur part of a culture U recognize certain stereotypes that exist in reality, when ur an outsider the conclusions ur making aren't based on intimate knowledge of the culture, but thru the filters of media or ur 1 friend of color (who is ur friend bc they're an outcast from their own heritage).

   When he was a child, George Takei and his family were forced into an internment camp for Japanese-Americans, as a "security" measure during World War II. 70 years later, Takei looks back at how the camp shaped his surprising, personal definition of patriotism and democracy.

   I found this talk very moving bc I am a 4th generation Japanese-Canadian. At the same time, I think George Takei is also pitching the idea of a film about the 442nd reg. A film I'd be interested in seeing & supporting if it became a kickstarter project.

   On February 24, 1942, an order-in-council passed under the War Measures Act gave the federal government the power to intern all "persons of Japanese racial origin".

   At that time, my father was 2 years old. His Father & Mother had their home, fishing boat & bank account confiscated. Then they gathered up my father & his 7 siblings & were relocated from their home in Nanaimo, BC to a POW camp in the interior of BC, Tashme. His father, my Gichan was born in Canada. It was his father that immigrated here before the turn of the century.

ATTACK ON CUTEST TITAN 
   - This is my fav bc it's the funniest, not bc I'm a huge Attack on Titan fan. I tried to watch it, but couldn't get into it. I like my anime a lot weirder & I also didn't like the style of animation. I think the massive popularity of this anime is the fact that heroes & main characters can die. Much like GoT, it feels unpredictable bc we aren't used to seeing likable characters just snuffed out.

   Attack on Titan's Mikasa, Armin, and Eren finally meet a Titan they can't kill. 'Cause it's just too cute.
