Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, Choi desperately dreamed of becoming an actor. Against his family's wishes, Choi left Purdue college to pursue his dream. He literally ran away from home for 5 years to train and study before moving to Los Angeles. Once in L.A., Choi hit the ground running. He was cast in an independent film during his first week and finished the year with appearances in 6 television series.

Kenbo is a local celebrity in Okinawa.
8 Fingered Kenbo - Vice Japan - http://www.vice.com/jp
Kenbo wasn't always the smiling, good natured Buddha-like character he is today. For eight years he was a member of one of Japan's Yakuza syndicates. His two missing pinky fingers reveal a troubled past consisting of alcohol, drug abuse, fights, and gambling.

After getting ex-communicated from his Yakuza clan, he eventually turned his life around with the help of his love for Okinawan music - the Sanshin in particular, which is like a banjo with three strings.

Hirata Yodom (平田澱) is a Japanese painter working mainly in acrylics.
I couldn’t find anymore info on him, but this is from the bio on his website: (I think Google translate was unable to accurately capture his sentiments)
Delusion painter.
When you close the eye strongly suffer from one knee in the corner of the room, miniature garden Oshii love to come along on the back of the eyelids, I have a picture in a variety of forms to be born in it.

部屋の片隅でひとり膝を抱えて強く眼を閉じると、瞼の裏に出来上がる愛おしい箱庭、 その中で生まれるいろいろな形を絵にしている。主にアクリル絵の具を使用。”

Eerie Vacant Night Streets

“Whatever it is you're seeking won't come in the form you're expecting"
- Haruki Murakami

Clearly, I’m not the only one who believes there is something magical about Japanese streets. These photographs have perfectly captured the eerie magical anticipation which emanates from the wires, architecture, graffiti, trees, crows & manhole covers.

If you’ve ever read Haruki Murakami, it’s not difficult to imagine turning a corner & being whisked into another dimension where a strange man bearing a disturbing resemblance to Colonel Sanders urgently pleas for your help with a goat man, living in a run-down love hotel, on floor where there is no floor, in a room where there is no room. It turns out, his pet cat fell down a large, well-like vortex in the corner of this no-room, in no-space...

(Sorry about not giving credit 4 tha photos - follow the pin trail to find out who took these.)

Top 8 Tees - May

1
Course I like the badass demonic samurai, but the colors R fun & pop. DBH has tons of good stuff

3
U've got 2 C this Shiroi Neko shirt up close to appreciate all the processing & foil work. Plus, I'm a sucker 4 anything with crows on it.

5
I'm a big PaleHorse fan & will feature more of his work in the coming months.

7
Obvious, but fun & well executed. :)

2
There R 2 Pokemon shirts on the list. I'm not a fan, haven't seen an ep., but I like the traditional woodblock print, ukiyo-e ref.

4
Emperor Eternity wear is very similar 2 Shiroi Neko in the detailing & full area printing. They're both big in Thailand & available on BlueBaldur.com

6
The other Pokemon, sometimes visual mash-ups seem like they were meant 2 B like lost Lego pieces. This suits the iconic Banksy perfectly down 2 the pose & overspray accents

8
Nothing incredible design-wise w/ this tee, but they got the Silence of the Lambs font down & I find myself recalling this line @ random times during the day.

MJ v Kobe: The Debate Settled

The 2013 NBA Finals are quickly approaching & sports writers are digging out the old Jordan v. Kobe argument again, even though neither of them have anything to do with this year’s playoffs.

This year the excuse is Phil Jackson’s new book ”Eleven Rings: The Soul of Success” where he weighs in on the debate.

So seeing as I know (almost) as much about basketball as Phil, the great YM will breakdown the MJ v Beko comparison & in so doing, settle the matter once & for all.
