Fenghua Zhong is a young, immensely talented digital artist from Xiamen, China who is obsessed with Sun Wukong. I would love to see his vision of The Monkey King as an online fantasy game or CG movie.

ART: Year of the Monkey Collection

Fire Monkey Collection 2016
(44 images on 2 pages)

Wishing all my fellow artistic revolutionaries joyous prosperity in 2016, yang fire monkey year with more monkey art than you can shake a banana at. I tried to compile an eclectic assortment of monkeys, apes, macaques, baboons, etc in a variety of styles & techniques. Sun Wukong & Hanuman are, of course associated with monkey years & feature prominently here. I've also included excerpts of general predictions for the year from Happy Wishing Well & Suzanne White.

The lunar Year of the Yang Red Fire Monkey runs from Monday Feb 08 2016 to Friday Jan 27 2017. This is a year of adventure, discovery, questions & answers, when luck can strike at bizarre times & fortunes can turn in the blink of an eye. Risk, strategy, learning, change & progress feature prominently in a Monkey Year.

curated by Yellowmenace (38 images)

Living in Thailand, I have been able to witness first hand the heartfelt grief & outpouring of remembrances for the beloved Rama IX. Many Thais have turned to art to express their gratitude & respect for the King's lifetime of service for his country. I've assembled my favorite 38 artworks from 23 Thai & international, professional & student artists.

UPDATE: For the cremation ceremony of Rama IX I've created a second art collection celebrating his life & love of Thailand > Celebrating the life of Rama IX The Great

The Thailand Toy Expo is such a huge event that I had to break my coverage into 3 parts of over 120 photos. I spent a weekend at Central World Bangkok & feel like I didn't get to see all the displays. There are so many toys I had to leave out because I wanted to bring you only the very best. I've added bonus TTE2018 photos on my Tumblr. Scroll down to get your geek on!

Top 8: Asian Books EVR!

The Yellowmenace shares with you the 8 greatest Asian books of all time.

       translator - R. L. Wing
Illustrated I Ching - R.L. Wing
HAIKU Book Review: Illustrated I Ching
Shake 3 coins, 6 times
64 future outcomes
straight or broken lines
My spiritual advisor regarding major life decisions for the past 15 years. I've tried several other versions of the I Ching, but this is the best. Eloquently concise the translation reverberates with subtext. Each hexagram is complimented with an ancient ink paintings which adds further depth & insight to each reading.
"An easily accessible yet powerfully enlightening tool that will help readers understand the I Ching's way of knowledge and grasp the principles behind the world's most ancient book."
I placed this book at #1 because of length of time it has been in my life & the impact it has continually had upon my journey. This isn't a book that sits on the shelf gathering dust, the I Ching is an advisor, my spiritual compass in times of turmoil or indecision.

2) Dance, Dance, Dance
       author - Haruki Murakami
Dance, Dance, Dance (cover) - Haruki Muakami
HAIKU Book Review: Dance, Dance, Dance
Motel room Sheep Man
Our past spins us like laundry
Don't forget to dance
I bought an English translation in Japan, read it every morning in a Korean park near my home with coffee & donuts while off from work. This was only my second Murakami, after Hardboiled Wonderland & Dance (x3) remains my favorite despite reading 3 more Murakami's.
