Hannah Faith Yata is a Japanese American painter who address the tensions & impact man is having on nature. Her paintings typically depict nude female bodies with colorful, distorted animal heads within natural field, garden or jungle setting. I've put together a collection of my favorite Hannah Yata artworks as part of the YellowMenace Women's Month Celebration.

Hannah grew up in a small town in Georgia where her mother taught her to appreciate the beauty of their natural surroundings, animals & the environment.
At the University of Georgia, Hannah studied Feminism, psychology & art. It is easy to see the influence of these ideas in her paintings. The often grotesquely surreal figures seem to reflect the psyche of our planet under the immense pressure rampant global industrialization.
She clearly links femininity to nature & tribal societies, while elements of mutation & synthetic materials give her art an unsettling, darker mood. Despite this, she manages to inject hints of optimism with her bright colors, classic compositions & outstanding technique giving her art a twang of capital R, Romanticism (the noble savage, nature as a welcoming home, etc). All of this results in works that truly are beautifully bizarre, as if she was paintings exclusively for that art magazine.
