I had the opportunity to meet Jung about 2 years ago at Jam Factory's ArtGround art fair. Since then we've bumped into each other at a few art events & interact on Facebook. He was kind enough to answer some interview questions to accompany this feature post.

● Any business advice for other artists trying to make art their livelihood?
"First of all, you need to have unconditional love for ART. You must be able to voluntarily smile & cry with this career path. Determination, well planned living, financial discipline, being firm with your own standpoint/style & always be proud of your own works, these are at the core of working in this career. Also very important, you need to have Good Friends."

● How do you make money as an artist? What are your income streams?
"Artwork sales are my only revenue for living. It is not stable sometimes, therefore financial discipline is very important for me to manage my budget."

● Which of your works are you most proud of?
"Speaking frankly, I love & am proud of all my pieces. Every work has its own particular inspiration & character.
However, there are 2 paintings having importance to my Artist's path & also representative of my painting style; 'The Knight' & 'The Warrior'. I worked for 3 years to finish these two pieces. They were quite difficult to complete, due to the expression & inner meaning I wanted to depict..."

"...I had to wait for the right time with the precise emotion to work on these pieces, whist completing my other works, as well. After applying rigid discipline to finish these pieces, I was granted the opportunity to have my first solo exhibition at The National Gallery in Bangkok in 2014."

"About my favorite exhibition, I still recall the moment I saw the artworks in Thawan Datchanee's solo exhibition at The Queen's Gallery. I was a third-year student of Lardkrabang Art College at that time. Every time I passed the gallery, I had to get off the bus & get into the exhibition.
The text I wrote into the guest book was "Greetings!! I am Narate Jung & we shall know each other someday."
