   Xiao's first job is in a clothing factory where he distracts a co-worker, causing the man to cut his own hand. Rather than paying for his co-worker's medical expenses & missed salary, he skips town & lines up a job at a high end men's club as an attendant. There he meets a sweet young hostess, San Pei Nu (Li Meng) from the same area of Shanxi. 

   San: What's your handle?
   Xiao: On QQ, I'm little bird.

   For a moment, it looks like the film will move into the brighter territory of a youthful romance, but the reality of their situation makes any kind of romantic relationship impossible.

   Dejected Xiao moves to a massive electronics factory where he realizes his future in 21st century China.

    A Touch of Sin is a true horror film, the horror of life without hope, scrambling to survive by fighting for the drips that trickle down from the top 5%. I know director, Jia Zhangke was commenting on specific social problems in China, but this movie is how Capitalism makes me feel, regardless of the country I'm living in.

   The Foxconn (富士康) suicides occurred between January and November 2010 at the Foxconn City industrial park in Longhua, Shenzhen, China. The 18 attempted suicides by Foxconn employees resulted in 14 deaths—the company was the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer at the time.

   The suicides drew media attention, and employment practices at Foxconn were investigated by several of its customers, including Apple and Hewlett-Packard. In addition to its business ties with Apple and HP, Foxconn is a major manufacturer that has also served Dell, Motorola, Nintendo, Nokia, and Sony.
