Sachin Teng
Taiwanese/American Illustrator
It's as if Mr. Teng has Seth Brundle's disfunctional teletransporter fused with McFly's time machine & he's merely capturing still lifes of the grotesqueries he has collected.
HAIKU Art Review: Sachin Teng
Cubed, sliced, ripped, mashed, fused
Glitching up fresh slabs of thought
Digital butcher
"I've always liked dissecting things, and this is quite literally dissecting, but in a painting you could be dissecting an idea or an emotion. Cut open a tree and find a heart inside."
- Dallas Observer article by Alexander Flores
There's a raw, uninhibited quality about Sachin's art. It feels a bit dangerous & that energy reminds of Picasso.
Where Picasso mashed perspectives together, Sachin seems to be splicing time frames. The hi-tech pixelated geometrics of the digital realm are rendered by his hand in faded distressed imprefection.
"Art is less a craft than it is a language."
"I was born and raised in New York. My parents though, are from Taiwan. My father was an artist, so growing up there was a radar for any possible inheritance of talent. And because everyone wanted to coax it out of me I figured out early I had the disposition for it."
- Dallas Observer article by Alexander Flores
"Sometimes things get lost in translation, so I spend most of my time finding the artifacts people have left behind."
"My specialty I'd say is the dialogue. I always think about what my work wants to say and then I design to communicate that feeling."
- Dallas Observer article by Alexander Flores
"Though I'm an illustrator, I think more like a designer, and try to make all of my work say something. Art can be the Mona Lisa or it can be propaganda, It's important what it says."Winner of a Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrators.
Sachin attended Pratt Institute for his BFA in Communication Design with a focus in Illustration.
He has worked for various publications such as Wired Magazine, The New Yorker, Discovery Channel, and has shown at several galleries such as Gallery Nucleus and Light Grey Art Lab.
