Dai Tamura: NBA Sketchbook

Dai Tamura (Japan)

curated by YellowMenace (40+ images)

Dai Tamura is a freelance illustrator from Japan whose love for basketball has changed his life. For a time, Dai was focused on caricature art, so much so that he came in 4th place at The International Society of Caricaturist Artists (ISCA) awards in 2015 & then became world champion in 2016. During that period, his art was very much typical caricature portraits with exaggerated features, however after winning the ISCA championship he changed to a more realistic, comic book style & he began focusing primarily on drawing NBA players.

ART: MinSuk Kim (김민석) - NBA 2014-15 Season in Review

MinSuk Kim (김민석) - (17 works)

With the NBA Playoffs upon us, I thought it would be fun to take a visual review of this year's outstanding players via MinSuk's stylish illustrations.
Kim MinSuk (김민석) - https://www.facebook.com/nbaillustration
MinSuk aka Kwang33 is one of the leading sports illustrators in Korea. He designs for several sports organizations, magazines & international clients. He has worked 10 years as the lead designer for the Korean magazine, "Rookie" which covers the NBA. He illustrates for the Korean Basketball League as well as Jumpball magazine which covers the KBL. He shares many of his designs on his Facebook page NBA Illustration.

This has been Stephan Curry's year. Truly a special season where everything seemed to come together for the Warriors. I think Steve Kerr is a very special basketball mind & his time with Gregg Popovich has had a lot to do with his current success. But Curry is the glue of the team, with his on court domination, focus & demeanor with Kerr & teammates which brought them to 67 wins & will take them deep into the playoffs.

Speaking of Nike iD, can anyone explain why they're only available in the US & Japan? They won't even ship anywhere else???

VID: Yuki Togashi (富樫勇樹) is ALMOST in the NBA!

Yuki Togashi (富樫勇樹) is ALMOST in the NBA!

Japanese point guard, Yuki Togashi (167cm) impressed fans & coaches by playing big for the Dallas Mavericks summer league team, but he didn't quite make the cut.
Well, he didn't, then he did, then he didn't.

Togashi was signed to the Mavs on Oct 15 & then waived on Oct 21 :( He did not get to play in a preseason game.
I don't think we've seen the last of him, tho. The Mavs will most likely sign him to their D-league team, Texas Legends & call him up if their guards get injured or don't perform up to expectation.

Keep in mind, Jeremy Lin made a splash on the Warriors summer league team & then later got cut after seeing very little action

VID: Endless Asian Basketball Stream

In honor of the start of the 2014-15 NBA season, here are a trailer load of not so serious, non-professional basketball vids from some of my fav Asian Youtubers.
David So  -  Fung Bros  -  ISAtv
David So - Basketball via Yellowmenace
Street Ballin Basics - Let's begin w/ a funny sketch showing an Asian trash talker taking one step beyond.

What am I supposed to do, talk about the only active Asian player in the NBA, Jeremy Lin? Man, I caught Linsanity when he was in the GSW Warriors Summer League.

There's FOB Asian player coming up, Yuki Togashi who I believe will make into the NBA this season as a replacement for an injured PG.
U heard it here 1st!

B-BALL: Lin Art

Web   -   FB   -   Youtube

With the first few games of the 2014 NBA Playoffs already played, The Rockets look like they will fall in the first round to the Blazers.

I thought I'd share some of the Jeremy Lin art I've been collecting from around the net before the Rockets season is over.
 Tak Wong - Young Dragon
Behance   -   FB   -   Pinterest

I've read some harshly critical comments re: Lin's performance in the Playoffs, which is all part of the 'Linsanity' backlash, which is subconsciously racist. Secret KKK trolls loaf in their computer chairs waiting for Lin to foul up.
Source? - Pls leave info in comments
In truth the entire Rockets team has been incredibly inconsistent against the Blazers, 2 mistakes for every good play. But Harden & Howard must shoulder the bulk of the blame as they got the big money 2 shine on this very stage, so far there have only been a few glimmers of superstar play.
 Jerry Ma - 3 teams
Web   -   FB   -   Blog

This is my first post about Lin, but I became a fan back when I saw him in Summer League for the Golden State Warriors. My hopes were super high for the first Asian-American to shine in the NBA. He couldn't do it with the Warriors, but we all know what happened in New York.

Creepy Haslem Heat Streak Quote

This is late, but I had to post it. This quote was taken in the midst of the Heat's historic 27 game win streak.
“Just touch the people. People want to be touched. Sometimes it’s going to be uncomfortable. Sometimes they might get carried away. But touch the people, the fans."
- Udonis Haslem
via Steve Aschburner for NBA.com
Haslem was trying to explain Shane Battier's inspirational speech which most of the players credit for the streak. Somehow things went horribly wrong & the quote comes off sounding super creepy.

Ding Dong Tha Black Weasel's Gone?

Hopefully, tha Black Weasel aka Beko Bryant is out for the season & his ambivalent team won't make the playoffs.

It's all up to Utah to not screw it all up by losing their last few games.

I loved the poetic justice of the Clippers clinching the Pacific Div title against the Lakers & getting the season sweep @ the same time.

It's an exciting time in the NBA.
