Mr. Misang: All Consuming Capitalism

ARTIST: Mr. Misang 미상씨 (mrmisang.com) via: #YellowMenace.net/blog
Mr. Misang is a Korean illustrator who constantly criticizes the overstimulated, overcrowded, total gluttony of modern urban life by over-stuffing his artworks with signs, symbols, machinery & pop culture references. He creates visual cacophony reflecting the oppressive emotional effects of living in South Korea, which is like a corporate culture pressure cooker because of it's relatively small size & rapid rise to the upper tier of the global market economy. Despite this, JuYong gets hired by numerous magazines & brands to illustrate posters, covers, animations, etc.

YoonJin Jo: Famous Packing Tape Portraits

YoonJin Jo 조윤진
curated by YellowMenace (36+ images)

YoonJin Jo is a Korean artist who creates portraits of celebrities using colored packing tape. The result looks like the low-res, geometric, color blocking popular in digital graphic design mixed with classic Warholesque messy screen printing. Check out the video below to better understand her creative process.

ART: Dali Roll - Surreal Sensuality

Dali Roll (달리롤) - (35 Images)
Web  -  Facebook  -  Tumblr

South Korean artist Dali Roll (달리롤) creates digital dreamscapes erupting with symbols of female reproduction. Ovals, ova, eggs, & other vulvic shapes dominate her work. The cute, flat, comic style & cheerful colors contradict the obsessive angst of the subject matter. Her digital creations seem to channel cryptic cries from the feminine collective unconscious.

Master Kim JungGi loves drawing & seems to never stop sketching. He draws just about everything, as I have presented in these past posts; Ancient Asia, War & Holidays

In this collection, I've gathered JungGi's sketches about sketching. These are less fantastic & more based on his actual surroundings; observing his art students at AniChanga, the art & animation school he co-directs, in the car with his family or just waiting around in a park.

ART: Sketches of Ancient Asia by Kim JungGi (김정기)

JungGi Kim (김정기) - (17 Images)
Web  -  Facebook  - YouTube
Shops:  US - EU - Japan - China

The argument over artistic talent vs effort ends with Kim JungGi. He is a uniquely gifted master artist who draws sprawling wide-angle murals, in ink with no references, relying only on images in his mind & without making any mistakes. His most recent accomplishment was setting the Guinness World Record for longest & fastest fish-eye art illustration at Odeon in Penang, Malaysia.

To fully understand Jung Gi's genius, watch the drawing performance he did for Christie's Auction House. He travels all over the world performing his art. Typically, he works for 2-3 days on a large mural while cameras record his progress, then the time-lapse video gets upload to his YouTube channel.

South Korean Illustrator Rudcef uses his art to connect with people & overcome social anxiety. He was majoring in statistics when the death of a family member caused him to reevaluate life & pursue a career in art. He has done many celebrity portraits, such as A$AP Yams & Rocky, Lana Del Rey, & Kendall Jenner.

I draw for “compathy” - sharing my feelings via art to fill the absence of communication in my life. All humans appear different, but we have the same organs, so for me anatomy represents our genuine being.

This has been Stephan Curry's year. Truly a special season where everything seemed to come together for the Warriors. I think Steve Kerr is a very special basketball mind & his time with Gregg Popovich has had a lot to do with his current success. But Curry is the glue of the team, with his on court domination, focus & demeanor with Kerr & teammates which brought them to 67 wins & will take them deep into the playoffs.

The Dream
Probably MJ's most famous work, I came across this on Deviant Art around 2009 & I was an instant fan. The level of intricate detail draws ur eye & holds ur gaze as U continue to examine the figure.

I love the abstraction & accent of color in the hand capturing motion or another angle, giving a subtle 'shout out' back at Picasso & Cubism.

Devon Aoki
This is one of MJ's more recent works & I wonder if Ms. Aoki has seen this & if so, what was her reaction.

Commission
We've heard countless lovers, poets & songwriters describe the feeling of being lost or absorbed by physical beauty. What MJ does so successfully is make this notion concrete via the painstaking & thoughtful detail laid upon these women's bodies. We are invited to look, look for a long time, & look closely.
