   Last weekend I caught a unique exhibit in Central World mall Bangkok. "Color Me Bear" is a group show featuring some of Thailand's greatest artists along with young up-&-comers all presenting paintings with accompanying custom versions of Medicom Toys' signature Be@rBrick figures. The event was expertly organized by Vinylnation Store, with a wide diversity of artists, thoughtful promotion, presentation & display which isn't easy in the middle of a shopping mall.

   Primarily a Thai comic book artist, Puck aka Tripuck Supawattana has diversified into several other disciplines, GIFs, art toys, animation, illustrating for apparel & print ads. Because he is a prolific creator I have devoted 3 posts to his art.    Back in the spring, Central World Bangkok hosted The 2018 Thailand Toy Expo. It's a huge 3 day event  with a variety of displays within & just outside of the downtown shopping mall. As usual, I'm ridiculously late to the party, but I thought I'd share some shots of my favorite designer toys anyway.

   The King of Thailand passed 1 year ago & now the nation prepares to for an elaborate cremation ceremony to send Rama IX The Great beyond the mythical Mount Meru.

   After last year's Art Tribute to the Thai King, I wanted to share more of the devotion, skill & diversity in the Thai art community with this second art collection of over 45 artworks celebrating the life & profound impact Rama IX has had on the people of Thailand.

   Living in Thailand, I have been able to witness first hand the heartfelt grief & outpouring of remembrances for the beloved Rama IX. Many Thais have turned to art to express their gratitude & respect for the King's lifetime of service for his country.    Back in the spring, I got to check out The Meeting of Styles street art festival in Pattaya, Thailand. I was surprised how many international artists this small event attracted. It was held in a derelict, 5 story nightclub w/ open elevator shafts & a giant hole in the middle of the 3rd floor.    

   This enter at your own risk locale was one of those "only in Thailand" situations where artists were given free reign to wander & create wherever they chose.

   It's notoriously difficult to identify street artists, because of vandalism laws, although there is growing acceptance w/ the popularity of street art. If you know any of these artists please message me via Facebook or Twitter & I will add the credit.

   Kriangkrai Kongkhanun was born in 1980 & graduated with a Masters degree from Silpakorn University in Thailand. He attempts to characterize the dark thoughts & emotions of humans whose minds are seized by sin as described in different legends & ancient Buddhist scriptures. Kriangkrai's art depicts the abstract concepts of hatred, anger, vengeance, greed & jealousy, his Neo-Primitive designs symbolize the karma of humanity.

   With his traditional Chinese/Japanese patterns, Jimmy Ho, now in his sixties, remains one of the coolest and most forward ­thinking tattooists in Hong Kong.
